Prospect.1 Education Program
FIELD TRIPS TO PROSPECT.1!
Have an art filled day at the Mint or CAC! Take your students on a field trip to either site, or both! All docent led tours are free and offer flexible scheduling. There is a charge for the Artist for a Day program offered by the CAC.
Docent Led Field Trips: Take your students on a field trip to the CAC or the Mint for a docent led tour that culminates with an art activity. The tour is based, in part, on the curriculum that has been developed for each site. Each tour is approximately one and a half hours in length, though time can be adjusted for your needs.
University Tours: If you plan to bring a university group to any of the Prospect sites, please complete the registration form below. Although you may not need to schedule a docent, or even have contact with the education department, completing the form will help us track all student visits throughout the biennial.
Artist for a Day (AFD): "Artists For a Day" is an outstanding field trip opportunity available for school groups and youth organizations. During each AFD, students encounter an exciting journey through the Contemporary Arts Center as "artists for a day" while learning from professional New Orleans artists. Skills learned during the classes in drama, dance, music, visual arts and creative writing can be integrated into core subjects of math, science, language and social studies or students can just experience the fun of learning something new. All participants come away with a sense of accomplishment and newly discovered skills. The cost is $6 per student. Artists for a Day hours are from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Participants are asked to bring a lunch to eat on the premises.
Scheduling a tour:
All school and youth groups of more than 10 students need to make reservations prior to visiting. Teachers are also required to have one chaperon per 10 students.
Tours are offered at the Contemporary Art Center Wednesday through Friday, beginning at 10:00am. Tours at the Old U.S. Mint are offered Tuesday through Friday beginning at 9:30am.
To register for a field trip at the Old U.S. Mint call (504) 568-6968 or 1 (800) 568-6968.

WORKSHOPS FOR EDUCATORS
Prospect.1’s teacher workshops will offer teachers the opportunity to learn more about the exhibition and leave with direct examples of how to incorporate contemporary art in the classroom. These workshops will provide participants with previously developed curriculum focusing on a select number of artists exhibiting at both the CAC and the Mint. While these workshops will cover essential elements related to art appreciation and understanding in the classroom, they are specifically tailored toward the field trip experience for your students.
