NARI WARD (b.1963, Saint Andrew, Jamaica) lives and works in New York.
Nari Ward utilizes discarded objects and materials found in the urban landscape to create sculptures and installations. Through his work, he raises issues related to consumer culture, poverty, and race. His juxtapositions are often ambiguous, allowing for multiple, open-ended interpretations.
His work has been exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe including solo exhibitions at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston; GAM, Torino, Italy; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN. His work has been included in Documenta XI; the Whitney Biennial (1995/2006); and Monument to Now, the Deste Foundation, Athens. He is Full Professor of Combined Media at Hunter College, New York.
