SUPERFLEX - Bjørnstjerne R Christiansen (b. 1969, Copenhagen, Denmark), Rasmus Nielsen (b. 1969, Copenhagen, Denmark), and Jacob Fenger (b.1968, Copenhagen, Denmark) live and work in Copenhagen.
Since 1993, the Danish artists group Superflex has been working together on a series of projects examining economic issues, democratic production conditions, and self-organization of workers. The artists have examined alternative energy production methods and commodity production in Brazil, Thailand and Europe. Their artistic activities, such as the on-going Guarana Power project, in which the artists, together with local farmers, developed a drink from caffeine-rich guaraná berries, are not anti-globalization, but try instead to render economic structures visible and to establish a new balance.
Superflex’s solo exhibitions include Supershow – More Than a Show at Kunsthalle Basel; Social Pudding, in collaboration with Rirkrit Tiravanija, at GFZK, Leipzig; Open Market at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt am Main, Germany; Guarana Power at the REDCAT Gallery, Los Angeles; and at Gallery Side 2, Tokyo, and Gallery 1301PE, Los Angeles. Among group exhibitions, Superflex has participated in the Gwangju Biennial (2002), Utopia Station at the Venice Biennale (2003), and, most recently, the São Paulo Biennial. .
