HERMAN WALLACE (b.1941, New Orleans, LA)
Multidisciplinary artist Jackie Sumell is inspired by the lives of everyday people. Her work, both as an activist and an artist, attempts to unmask the common denominator of human experience that often hides behind the personal biography. Her work has been exhibited widely in the San Francisco Bay Area and in various non-profit venues throughout the U.S. including Artists Space, New York, and The Luggage Store Gallery, San Francisco,. Internationally, she has been included in the exhibition, Axis of Good in Lisbon; the Havana Biennale; Proyecto Circo, Cuba (2003); Kunst Lebt, Stuttgart Kunstgebaude, Germany (2006); and The Tulca Arts Festival, Galway, Ireland (2006). She is currently a Context 3 artist-in residence in Dublin.
Herman Wallace was convicted of the 1972 murder of Angola Prison guard Brent Miller on January 10, 1974 in a case that remains controversial. Since then he has been kept in solitary confinement at Angola.
