NEDKO SOLAKOV (b. 1957, Cherven Briag, Bulgaria) lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Nedko Solakov is the one of the best-known Bulgarian artist of the current generation. Although he studied mural painting at the art academy in Sofia, he now works equally in painting, photography, video and drawing. His small-format drawings on hand-made paper, such as the Stupidity Series (2006), are well known. Solakov’s seemingly nonsensical comments on our world and its value systems, including the contemporary art world, are actually a lyrical critique and a personal statement on the state of things.

Solakov has had solo exhibitions of his work at P.S. 1 Contemporary Arts Center, Long Island City, NY; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; and Kunsthaus, Zürich. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (2007); the Kassel Documenta; and Okwui Enwezor’s Seville Biennial (2006).

Solakov is represented by Arndt&Partner in Berlin and Gallería Continua in San Gimigniano, Italy.
