JOHN PILSON (b. 1968, New York, NY) lives and works in New York.

John Pilson’s most recent series, Coliseum (2006), consists of four video works that explore the shifting relationships between work and play, talk and action, the daily and the dramatic. The rhythms of language are constants in each piece: heated discussions of arcane knowledge, theatrical monologues, the physical dialogue between a group of athletes. While previous work has been concerned with the theatricality of space, these new works employ video in an exploration of group portraiture.

Pilson has exhibited at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2007); the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2006); the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2004); and the Castello di Rivoli, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli, Italy (2003), among others.

Pilson is represented by Nicole Klagsbrun in New York.
