AERNOUT MIK (b. 1962, Groningen, Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam.
Aernout Mik’s video installations stage narratives, which are based on semi-fictional catastrophes and evoke uncertainty about what is really happening. In his surreal, often apocalyptic scenarios, Mik comments on the frequent inability of humans to react instinctively and individually to monumental catastrophes.
Mik’s work has been shown in notable solo and group exhibitions at the Venice Biennale (2007); the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2006); the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2005); and The Israel Museum, Jerusalem (2006), among others.
Mik is represented by The Project Gallery in New York.
