NALINI MALANI (b. 1946, Karachi, India) lives and works in Mumbai.

Nalini Malani is one of India’s most prominent artists.  Malani has gained an international reputation for her multi-layered mixed media installations that often have political overtones.  The artist combines personal references, such as Indian imagery, with specific historical ones, such as images of the struggles in Palestine and Bosnia, or the American destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, weaving universal concepts into her works’ narratives.

Malani has had solo and group exhibitions at the Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2005); the Modern Art Museum, Oxford (2006); and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2002-2003); and has participated in the Taipei Biennial (2006); and the Istanbul Biennial (2003), among others. Recent exhibitions include her large retrospective at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2007), and her participation in the Venice Biennial (2007).
