SHAWNE MAJOR (b. 1968, New Iberia, LA) lives and works in Opelousas, LA.

Shawne Major's beguiling tapestries are fetishistically bejeweled with thousands of objects including beads, buttons, plastic toys, and silk flowers, costume jewelry and more. Major choreographs these elements into each composition, and within each tapestry creates her own cosmology inspired by the overlay of belief systems that imbricate society.

Major currently has a solo exhibition at the Opelousas Museum of Art in Louisiana. Her work has been shown in New York, Washington D.C., Oregon, and the Textile Arts Center in Chicago and is included in the collections of the Hilliard Museum in Lafayette, LA; the Ogden Museum of Art in New Orleans and the Frederick R. Weisman Foundation, Los Angeles.

Major is represented by Heriard-Cimino Gallery in New Orleans.
