JOSE DAMASCENO (b. 1968, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.

Jose Damasceno is best known for his large-scale sculptures and installations using a variety of unconventional materials and procedure.  Damasceno’s work combines good humor with a sense of estrangement to represent space – natural or constructed – as a moving dimension, thus altering our senses and our perceptions of it.

Damasceno exhibited in the Brazilian pavilion in the 2007 Venice Biennale. Other recent solo exhibitions include 30 Years Party, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Projeto-Objeto, Galeria Artur Figalgo, Siqueira Campos, Brazil; and InfraMarket, Thomas Dane Gallery, London.  The artist has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid.

Jose Damasceno is represented by The Project in New York.
