ADAM CVIJANOVIC (b. 1960, Cambridge, MA) lives and works in New York.
Adam Cvijanovic’s invented technique of painting directly on Tyvek (the Dupont material used in Fed Ex envelopes as well as in the construction of new homes) opens up the possibility of making painting a part of the architecture by adhering the painted paper directly to the wall. The artist relates his technique to fresco painting, an artistic method dating back to antiquity, dubbing his work “mobile frescoes.”
Cvijanovic recently exhibited Glacier in a project curated by James Elaine at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Ideal City, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia; On the Wall: Wallpaper and Tableau, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia (2003); and Yard, The Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY (2003). Cvijanovic’s work has also been exhibited at Cuchifritos and Roebling Hall in New York, and the VOLTAshow, Basel.
Adam Cvijanovic is represented by Bellwether Gallery in New York.
