FRANCIS CAPE (b. 1952, Lisbon, Portugal) lives and works in New York.
Trained in both wood-working and photography, Francis Cape typically carpenters architectural interventions, that recently have included photography. Poetic and meditative, the installations hold a dialogue with architecture, which the photography extends to the tumbling world outside.
Cape grew up in London, trained with a wood carver in York and received his BFA from the London Arts School and his MFA from Goldsmiths College. He has exhibited his work extensively in the U.S. including at the Glyndor Gallery, Wave Hill, NY; the St. Louis Art Museum, MO; the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, OH; the Sculpture Center and P.S. 1 in Long Island City, NY; and the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA, among others. He has also participated in exhibitions in Germany and England.
Cape is represented by Murray Guy in New York.
