JANINE ANTONI (b. 1964, Freeport, Bahamas) lives and works in New York.
Janine Antoni’s work blurs the distinction between performance art and sculpture. Transforming everyday activities such as eating, bathing, and sleeping into ways of making art, Antoni’s primary tool for making sculpture has always been her own body. Her works made of chocolate and lard, and her historic performance With Loving Care Hair Dye Natural Black at the Anthony d’Offay Gallery in 1993, have become important references in contemporary art.
Antoni’s work has been exhibited and collected internationally. Most recently she has exhibited at Magasin 3, Stockholm; The Deste Foundation, Athens; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT; and SITE Santa Fe. Her work is in the collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Antoni is represented by Luhring Augustine in New York.
