ALLORA & CALZADILLA - Jennifer Allora (b. 1974, Philadelphia, PA), and Guillermo Calzadilla (b. 1971, Havana, Cuba) live and work in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla have collaborated since 1995. Through sculpture, photography, performance, sound and video, Allora & Calzadilla explore questions of mark making, traces, and survival in a way that is simultaneously conceptual, metaphorical and spatial.
Allora & Calzadilla have had solo exhibitions worldwide at venues including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN (2004); The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2004); The Dallas Museum of Art, TX (2006); and The Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2006). Their work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH, and The International Center of Photography, New York, among many others. They have taken part in numerous biennials, including the São Paulo Biennial (1998), the Lyon Biennale (2005/2007), and the Istanbul Biennial (2007). They have most recently opened exhibitions at the Renaissance Society, Chicago; the San Francisco Museum of Art, CA; and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. In 2008, Allora & Calzadilla will be DAAD Artists in Residence in Berlin.
Allora & Calzadilla are represented by Barbara Gladstone Gallery in New York, Chantal Crousel Gallery in Paris, and Lisson Gallery in London.
